Entrance exam Tips and Strategies

Almost all the entrance exams like government job exams, engineering, medical, GRE, GMAT, SAT or classroom tests contain multiple-choice questions. No doubt you will encounter these types of questions on tests if you are preparing for any exams. Learning some proper answer giving strategies will help you to go with an ease during these exams.

  • While taking classes for GMAT vs CAT or any other exam, your professors will always suggest you to read the question carefully before answering is very important. Do not hurry while answering thinking that you already know it. This is a common mistake that everyone tend to make.
  • After reading a question try to answer it in your mind first before reviewing the answer options. This will prevent you from talking yourself out of the right answer.
  • Eliminate options which you’re sure is incorrect before choosing the answer you know is correct. After eliminating the wrong options focus on the remaining answers. This strategy not only saves your time but it also increases your likelihood of selecting the correct answer greatly.
  • It is very important to select the best answer to the question that has been asked, not just the answer that seems to be correct. Often you may find many answers correct, but there is always a best answer to the question that your professors are looking for.
  • Every coaching centers like the GMAT vs CAT will always suggest you to Read every answer option before choosing a correct answer. But it is a common mistake students tend to make. There is always a good answer to multiple-choice question. If you quickly assume that you know the correct answer, without even first reading every option, you might end up choosing the wrong answer.
  • First answer the questions that you know. If you’re having problem in answering a question, move on and come back to it once you’ve answered all the questions that you know. Make sure to answer easier question first then go for answering the tougher ones.
  • Pay close attention particularly to the words like notsometimesalways, and never. An answer that includes always and never must be irrefutable. If you can find a single counterexample, then the answer will be incorrect.
  • When you encounter options with “All of the above” and “None of the above” answer choices, do not choose “All of the above” if you are quite sure any one of the answers given is incorrect. The same thing will apply in case the option has “None of the above” if you are confident enough that at least one of the answer choices that is given holds true.
  • When you find that there are seemingly two correct answers in a multiple choice question having an “All of the above” option, then most probably it will be the correct choice.

The more information you have the more better it will be. More often than not, the right answer will usually contain more information than the other incorrect options. This is always good to know if you are guessing the correct answer.
